The “extremist” in the UK

When I proposed to my PUD colleagues that we invite prominent energy folks to the utility to discuss how we might meet the end uses of our customers more efficiently, one commissioner labeled my list of names “extremists.” Well, what may be too extreme for Snohomish County PUD is not the case for the UK.

Amory Lovins is consulting with the UK electric utilities to bring them into the modern era of “negawatts” and smart grid. As Lovins say, “It’s generally cheaper to save fuel than to burn it.”

As for the PUD, I haven’t given up hope that someday we’ll see the likes of Mr. Lovins helping the utility track a new and more ambitious path to capturing energy savings.
